Understanding Each Other
Do we understand each other?
I would say No. But I do believe that we think that we understand each other.
There are different types of people with different approaches to life and with different approaches to other people that they live with or encounter or interact with, and so on.
I believe that there are people who are aware of their own selves and probably aware of most people around them. If this is you, then that is good.
But in the overall, most people, in my opinion, are not aware.
Many people are more thinking about themselves, and what they can get out of what they can do. You know the expression: What’s in it for me? They are not interested in how they may be affecting other people around them. I would say that these many people either do not try to understand other people or, even worse, they may understand other people enough to know how to exploit them for their own gain.
Many other people live in a life where they do not really know other people around them. They live in fear because they have little to no control over their own lives.
Some people want to live in their own little groups, and that feel protective because that is their comfort zone.
But who really takes the time to try to understand their own selves? Who looks back over their own experiences to evaluate what has worked and what has not worked; who has hurt and who has helped; and ask am I one of those that hurt or help other people? What do I want my role to be in life?
Or is it about: Am I getting ahead? How do I measure up? What do my peers think about me?
Maybe so many of us are more concerned about the me, that we can not understand each other?
Something seems to be very wrong with the way that we interrelate with each other, a way that has changed over the last decade. Overall, I do not think that we care to understand each other.
